Hong Kong Social Enterprise Empowers People with Disabilities Through Leather Craft, Creating “Gospel Products with a Human Touch”
The Christian Family Service Centre’s social enterprise, A-soulroom by Asbury, empowers individuals with autism by providing leathercraft training that helps them develop vocational skills.
Trainees progress from assembling simple components to crafting refined items like wallets and cardholders, with their products being exported to Japan and Europe, and co-designed with local
designers.
Project lead Kwok Sze-kit shared that a sense of responsibility has increased participants’ engagement, with some even volunteering to teach at community markets—challenging stereotypes
associated with sheltered workshops. The initiative not only promotes inclusion and diversity but also uses craftsmanship as a medium to convey the Christian message that “every life holds
sacred value.”
